In Chinese, Trichoderma is described as a wood mold – 木霉 。 The character for mold (霉) is complex and contains two parts. The upper one means rain (雨), the lower part indicates repeated occurrence (每). Thus, the Chinese name of the fungus reflects its ecology: Trichoderma is the common mold that appears on wood after rain.
